Food Friday: Beer Sunday!

Indignity Vol. 5, No. 159

Our Value beer cooler, Oriole Park at Camden Yards

FOOD (AND DRINK) FRIDAY

Value-Priced Ballpark Macrobrews, Ranked

THE HOUSE RAKE on food and drink at big music venues and major league sports stadiums is always daunting, so the half of Indignity that attends Baltimore Orioles home games on the regular at Oriole Park at Camden Yards, was delighted—and then mildly disappointed by the execution of—the institution of the Birdland Value Menu, featuring cheap hotdogs and beer. The hotdogs are half price, and the beers are about one-third what you'd pay at the other stalls for slightly larger quantities. Value!

Earlier this year, we heard the official announcement of Value, and got excited enough to attempt to provide Service Tweeterism in our social media!

Then as the Orioles season progressed/devolved we became irritated by the shell game of closed or outright disappearing stalls providing Value. Late in the season, however, with the Orioles out of contention and attendance down, it's been relatively easy to line up for a coupla doses of Value beer, $5.45, tax inc., per 12 oz. can.

Counter of the stall near the register. My can of High Life and a cash tip.
It's all cashless transactions now, but be sure to provide Value to your server with a cash tip.

Okay, here is Value, ranked, from the beers on offer at the stall near our regular seat up in the nosebleeds, section 326.

(Honorable Mention) Vizzy Hard Seltzer (fermented cane sugar)

4 - Stella Artois (5% ABV)

3 - Blue Moon (5.4& ABV)

2 - Athletic Lite (<0.5%ABV)

1 - Miller High Life (4.6%)

A can of Miller High Life, high above the diamond on a pleasant evening.

WEATHER REVIEWS

New York City, September 4, 2025

★★★ The cat ran to the window and looked out, her black fur catching blue highlights like Superman's hair. The air was heavier than it had been and carried a leafy smell. Out on the pavement it was hot—a little bit hot, but hot—and the brightness and glare were enough to bring on sneezing. The afternoon wind hissed and whooshed through the trees; a child descending a stoop stared up at the whipping branches. Toward dinnertime, the air currents cutting through the apartment were outright chilly, and then a moderate rain was faling, a mild approximation of a heat-breaking shower to go with the mild approximation of heat.

Lamb Sandwiches

Line some sandwich-moulds with aspic jelly flavoured with mint; when set, lay on the jelly some very thin slices of cold lamb, on which lay some shreds of cucumber, cover with more of the jelly, and put on ice; then turn them out on a bed of lettuce shred very fine and decorate with cucumber cut to pea shapes, and moistened with French salad-dressing.

If you decide to prepare and attempt to enjoy a sandwich inspired by this offering, be sure to send a picture to  indignity@indignity.net .
