Wordle Postgame Report, December 6
Large Beer Barrel - Them Were the Happy Days: My what a lot of the AMBER fluid this huge barrel could hold. It was built way back in the good old days of 1879 and still holds the record for the largest beer barrel to be built. Now since Congress took away our amber brew without even consulting us this picture will go down in history in connection with the pre-Volsteadian era. This remarkable cask probably the largest ever made was built in 1879 by a Cincinnati, Ohio brewery to hold real beer. Before being put into service it was hauled through the streets so that all could get a good look at its size. It measured 16 x 20 feet and its capacity 16,500 gallons or 231,000 glasses of beer. How would you like to have one filled in your cellar? Photo: Bettmann/Getty Images.

December 6, AMBER, 3/6

AFTER I'D SCRAPED away a handful of already-used words from my mind, it was time to do RINSE. Yellow E, yellow R, put them together: LAYER. The round-one letters turned green, the A turned yellow, adding more information on top of that. Moving the A rightward would make an awkward -AER ending. Leftward, at the start of the word, ANGER was already out. But AMBER would fit. Normal letters, a slightly unusual word-shape, some semantic appeal—preserve this one as a sample of what a Wordle answer should be.

The Wordle Postgame Report will be posted semi-regularly on the website of the Indignity newsletter, and on Popula, which we encourage you to support. Thank you for reading!
