Indignity Image Roundup: ROUNDUP!
Indignity Vol. 5, No. 138

Previously, on INDIGNITY

What do they do with all their extra money? They buy atrocious houses. They shut down publications. They buy politicians, over and under the table. Now a whole batch of them have moved directly into government—and we have the most corrupt and incompetent executive branch in memory to show for it.
COLUMN DEP'T.

I made a pilgrimage to the racetrack at Saratoga, and my horse naturally won, but jeez, it was hot down there in horse country. Anyway, I made a nice little score, it was enough to cover a festive celebratory meal, and then I got the hell outta that town before I started thinking I should maybe go back to the track today and try to push my winning streak.

OVER-EXPLAINING DEP'T.
Indignity Presents: A Collection of Collections of Images
GOOD EVENING! Today is the first day of August, which means, owing to the persistence of COLUMN DEP'T. Thursdays, we find ourselves a day late, here on the first day of August, ready to present the July installment of our monthly GETTY IMAGES ROUNDUP.
To keep you, the readers, supplied with visually appealing, topically appropriate, and legally licensed images in our newsletters, Indignity maintains a paid subscription to the Getty Images service. Because even the lowest available tier of the Getty plan still offers more photos and illustrations than we generally use, and because we want to make sure all of us get our full money's worth, at the end of each month we prepare a bonus collection of images to keep using up our annual allotment at the appropriate rate.
However, we are on vacation, so, in recognition of the image roundups past and, we hope, to come, we present our image-saving end-of-July photographic roundup (keyword: ROUNDUP), composed of image roundup posts from our previous incarnations at Hmm Daily, Hmm Weekly, and the Brick House.

As always, thank you for reading Indignity, or at least looking at the pictures. We remain grateful for your continued interest and support.
Enjoy previous installations of the Indignity Image Roundup.

WEATHER REVIEW
Cape Town, July 31, 2025
★★★★ Again an early morning storm was louder than the loud heater in the room. Afterward, big cumulus clouds stood in a blue sky with bright sun and chilly air like the first part of mid-Atlantic autumn. A trip to a nearby dam found puddles on the path and a pair of ducks foraging on a flooded stretch of flowering lawn nearby, one floating and one wading. The reservoir was completely obscured by reeds until the path mounted to the top of the dam proper. Down on the dry side a woodcutting crew was clearing scrub with chainsaws. It was not the kind of weather that got warmer from walking around in it. Early afternoon did attain mildness, but after a short visit to a museum the chill was back, with a bite to it. Light played on the mountains and made every safety color pop among the boats and heavy equipment on the waterfront. In with the golden clouds were a few grayer ones. A quick rain of large but spaced-out drops started falling from a relatively blue zenith.

EASY LISTENING DEP'T.
HERE IS THE Indignity Morning Podcast archive!

POD JOB DEP'T. Vacation season is upon us and the Indignity Morning Podcast Studio anticipates a two week shutdown unless some un-ignorable piece of news breaks, and I find myself with unstructured time and a connection to the Internet, but, assuming nothing unexpected happens in either direction, we will talk again on August 11th.

ADVICE DEP'T.

SANDWICH RECIPES DEP'T.
WE PRESENT INSTRUCTIONS in aid of the assembly of a sandwich selected from The White House Cook Book: A Comprehensive Cyclopedia of Information for the Home, by Hugo Ziemann and Mrs. Fanny Lemira Gillette, published in 1919, and available at archive.org for the delectation of all.
CHEESE SANDWICHES.
THESE are extremely nice and are very easily made. Take one hardboiled egg, a quarter of a pound of common cheese grated, half a teaspoonful of salt, half a teaspoonful of pepper, half a teaspoonful of mustard, one tablespoonful of melted butter, and one tablespoonful of vinegar or cold water. Take the yolk of the egg and put it into a small bowl and crumble it down, put into it the butter and mix it smooth with a spoon, then add the salt, pepper, mustard, and the cheese, mixing each well. Then put in the tablespoonful of vinegar, which will make it the proper thickness. If vinegar is not relished, then use cold water instead. Spread this between two biscuits or pieces of oat-cake, and you could not require a better sandwich. Some people will prefer the sandwiches less highly seasoned. In that case, season to taste.
If you decide to prepare and attempt to enjoy a sandwich inspired by this offering, be sure to send a picture to indignity@indignity.net .
