A 15-year-old boy was thrown to the ground and suffered second-degree burns on Thursday when lightning reportedly jumped from a tree to his chain necklace while he was taking shelter from sudden thunderstorms in Central Park. I could barely walk."
Two brothers in Duryea, Pennsylvania, were evaluated at the hospital Sunday after being hit by current from a lightning strike on a tree under which they had been working with their father on a "crash derby" car. "When I pulled my sock off, it was smoking," one of them told WNEP TV news.

WEATHER REVIEWS
New York City, June 23, 2025
★ In the brief minutes it took to use the nail clippers and put in contact lenses, with the bathroom door closed against the cat and incidentally the air conditioner, the heat came creeping in through the vent. Floating dampness palpably clogged the stairwell. The front stoop was sheeted with water condensed by the air conditioner above, but by afternoon all but the direct landing spot of the drip had been baked dry. Stepping from the sidewalk into the dark and heavily cooled market was stupefying, making it hard to think straight about the groceries. At sundown, after everyone had long since turned their backs on the day, the sky was a luminous purple, shading to pink in the west.
